RECALL: Mainland and Anchor Salted Butters, 500g packs
Date: 14 Feb 2012
Fonterra Brands is recalling two of its butter products and has launched an investigation after two customers found metal objects in their butter. A total of 410,000 packs are being recalled.
The products being recalled are Mainland Salted Butter 500gm with a best before date of January 10, 2013 (batch CV12), and Anchor Salted Butter 500gm best before January 26, 2013 (batch CV28).
The recall was ''a precaution'' and there had been no reports of injury, a spokeswoman said.
In September, Fonterra Brands recalled 180,000 Mainland cheese products after the discovery of a metal fragment in one pack.
The spokeswoman said there was no connection between the incidents, which were ''an unfortunate coincidence''.
The butter was manufactured at Fonterra's Whareroa plant in Taranaki, and the cheese at Lichfield in the Waikato.
In the latest scare, the two reports of metal in butter were a month apart, Fonterra said.
A customer reported finding a metal pin on February 9. This followed a complaint about a pin in a butter pack last month. Two types of pin were involved.
